The Energy Bureau of Yunnan Development and Reform Commission recently released that Yunnan province has made plans for 30 wind power plants to be built in order to tackle the shortage of power supply and reduce environmental pollution as much as possible. The total installed capacity will reach 2822 MW.
An official from the Energy Bureau of Yunnan Development and Reform Commission introduced that Yunnan province had the potential for wind power generation. "Developing wind power generation can adjust the energy structure of the province, and solve the lack of thermal and hydropower supply problems, especially for the issue of meeting the electricity demand in rural areas. At the same time, wind power can reduce pollution and improve the virtuous circle of eco-environment," the official said. Wind power has become the third largest power source in Yunnan province followed by hydropower and thermal power.
The official stated that Yunnan province has made plans for 30 wind power plants, whose total installed capacity will amount to 2822 MW. Amid them, the 13 wind power plants in the earlier plan were adjusted to have a capacity of 1377 MW. The government of Yunnan province further revised the plan adding 17 new power plants with an installed capacity reaching 1445 MW.
